Norma “Charlene” Palmer, 76, was a caring wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She left this world peacefully in her home on June 21st, 2023, with her beloved husband David E. Palmer, and little sister Wanda (Bernard) Garrigus by her side. Charlene was born on December 27th, 1946. Her parents were Juanita (Shockley) Bernard and Raymond E. Bernard, Jr., and she grew up in Cleveland, Missouri.
After Charlene graduated from Midway High School in 1964, she went on to work at her first job with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri. On December 19th, 1965 Charlene was united in marriage to David E. Palmer. In the beginning of their marriage they lived in Glassport, Pennsylvania before eventually moving and settling down in Belton, MO. During their 57 years of marriage, they traveled all over, but their favorite destination was the Northwest, in the Rocky Mountains. Together, they enjoyed camping and exploring the National Parks of America.
Along with travelling, Charlene loved to crochet and gifted many of her crocheted creations to her family and friends over the years. After her retirement in 2013, her crochet hobby really took off, which can be made apparent by the number of creations that can be found in her home. Charlene attended the Bread of Life East Church in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a faithful servant to the Lord, and a beloved member of the congregation of this Church.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita (Shockley) Bernard and Raymond E. Bernard Jr.; and her sister Diana (Bernard) Gargus. She is survived by her husband David E. Palmer of the home; sisters Wanda (Bernard) Garrigus (Marko) of Archie, Missouri, Melody (Bernard) Caruthers (Donnie) of Harker Heights, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, her loving extended family members and her many friends as well.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Tuesday, June 27 at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut St, Belton, Missouri. Services will be held at the same location, at 11am, Wednesday, June 28 with a visitation 10-11am beforehand. Following the services, the burial will take place in West Union Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri. Those who wish to remember Norma Charlene in a special way may make donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
