Charles H. Maddox, 61, of Beverly Hills, FL died on Friday, March 30, 2012. He was born in Princess Anne, MD on Wednesday, September 27, 1950 to Charles and Edith (Rhock) Maddox. His uncle and aunt, Fred and Hermeania “Mom” (Moye) Holden, raised him. He attended the Philadelphia, PA public schools. Charles retired as a truck driver for Signal Delivery Service (Sears) in Philadelphia. He later obtained his real estate license and worked at several real estate offices in NJ.
Charles confessed a hope in Christ at a young age. He had a radical change for Christ in 1975 after which he wrote and recorded a song about his “born again” experience. He was a graduate of the Manna Bible Institute (Mt. Holly, NJ) where he taught for several years. He served as the Minister of Music for the youth and young adult choirs at Wharton Wesley United Methodist Church (Philadelphia, PA) and Delaware Valley Baptist Church (Willingboro, NJ).
In February 2000, Charles moved from Hammonton (Winslow), NJ to Florida where he joined Meadowbrook Church (Ocala, FL). He enjoyed playing the piano and writing music. Charles wrote and recorded several songs, including “Holy Light,” “Come to the Father,” “This Man Called Christ,” “I’m in Awe of Your Love” and others.
Charles loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His one desire for them was that they have a personal relationship with Jesus. He lived to know that they do and one day they will join him with the Father. When his youngest daughter, Charlene, was an undergraduate at Indiana University, she called almost weekly for prayer. The prayers were answered and she went on to receive her Masters degree. Charles always ended his call to his children with “Don’t forget I love you.”
Charles enjoyed “do it yourself “ projects, especially building. He built a deck on his home in NJ and a shed. He built a double mailbox for his FL home and installed outdoor lights plus many other projects.
Charles is survived by his wife of 22 years, Delaree (Parker) Maddox; three sons: Brandon Hawkins (New York); Christian Charles Maddox (Philadelphia); and Timothy (Christina) Maddox (Philadelphia); and six daughters: Charlotte (Will) Washington (Virginia Beach, VA), Sharon Lane (Philadelphia); Shannon Nicole (Lawrence Hollis) Jones (Philadelphia); Christine Maddox (NJ); Christiana (David) Barbour (Philadelphia); and Charlene Maddox (Philadelphia). Charles also leaves 16 grandchildren, three great-grand children, four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in- law, one godson, Jacob Parker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday, April 13, 2012 from 9:30 A.M until the time of the service at 10:30 A.M. at The First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills, 4950 N. Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, Florida 34465.
