Moo K. Uhm

Moo K. "Patrick" Uhm, 71, of Hernando, passed away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 at Hospice House in Lecanto. He was born May 26, 1940 in Manchuria, China to Tae Wan and Hee Yul (Kwon) Uhm. Mr. Uhm's professional career encompassed several areas during his life. He was a clinical psychologist by profession, having earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Seoul University in Seoul, South Korea, where he was associated with Catholic Medical Center (St. Mary's Hospital). He taught psychology at several colleges in Seoul and was a researcher for Korea's National Defense and Science Institute. Moo also enjoyed careers in electronics and real estate and fostered the creation of a Korean retirement community in Citrus County. He was a board member of Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. and director of various retreats in the U.S. and Korea. Mr. Uhm was a published author in the Korean language on centering prayer, and also translated many spiritual books in Korean. Among his other accomplishments, he also formed a 16 DVD set in Korean which covered 48 subjects on centering prayer. Patrick, as he was also known at his parish of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills, loved to sing and enjoyed golf. He moved here permanently from the Chicago area in 2006. Moo is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jung Sook "Helen" Uhm of Hernando; daughter Monica Winters (Liam), Larchmont, NY; son Thomas Uhm (Tracy), London, England; son Andrew Uhm (Michelle), Los Angeles, CA and grandchildren Kenna, Carsen, Zoe and Daniela. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Fri., Sept. 2nd at 12:00 Noon from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills, with Fr. Carl Arico from Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. Interment will be private. Friends are invited to celebrate Mr. Uhm's life with his family on Thurs., Sept. 1st from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Fero Funeral Home, Beverly Hills.
