It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth (Schindler) Schmidt announces her passing on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the age of 89. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Norm, and her three sons: Paul (Anne Marie Walker) Schmidt of Bellevue, WA; John (Shelley) Schmidt of Orlando, FL and Mark Schmidt of Hernando, FL; her two grandchildren David and Carly Schmidt of Orlando, FL and her brother Earl Schindler (Sylvia) of Kensington, CT. Ruth was raised in Rockville, CT by her late parents Fred and Bertha (Schneider) Schindler, and attended Rockville public schools, graduating as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1947. After graduation, she worked for the Savings Bank of Rockville for many years and was a stay-at-home mom, raising her three boys. She was later employed at Cape Cod Community College on Cape Cod, MA, where she and her husband Norm lived for 26 years before moving to Hernando, FL. Both did a considerable amount of travel in the U.S. and Europe. They were also genealogists, following their family lines back to the 1600’s. All her life, Ruth was active in the Lutheran church. Friends will be received on Wed., Aug. 22, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, 935 S. Crystal Glen Dr., Lecanto, FL 34461, where a funeral service of remembrance will commence at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Stephen Lane officiating.
