Billy Thomas Carpenter, age 84, a Birmingham native, born February 15, 1930 passed away Monday evening April 28, 2014. He was a member of Bivens Chapel United Methodist Church. He attended Ensley High School, where he was an All-state athlete. He then served in the army, where his interest in the medical field led to his career as a Nurse Anesthetist. Bill eventually retired from the VA Hospital where he practiced and later taught anesthesia. His favorite pastimes were fishing and playing golf. He was a long time member of Woodward Country Club where many of his fellow golfers knew him as “Puerto.” He loved spending time with his family and playing “spirited” games of dominoes. He is survived by three children, Tommy Carpenter, Vicki Carpenter, Christopher Bill Carpenter and two grandchildren, Joanie Carpenter and Bailey Carpenter. He also loved and was much loved by his extended family, Glenda Bursen, Rodney Doss, George Doss, and William Doss. Visitation will be Friday May 2 from 12:00-2:00pm with services immediately following at Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel.
