He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Adams Culpepper, his father, Donald E. Culpepper, and his sister, Donna C. Turner. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian B. Culpeper, Daughter, Robin C. McNair (Scott), Granddaughter, Molly McNair, Grandsons, Will and Andy McNair, all of Mobile, Alabama, Sister, Judy C. Turner (Chuck) of Tuscaloosa, several beloved nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
After retiring from U. S. Steel in 2001, he served on Staff at Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster, Alabama until 2013. While a member at Westwood (1997-2013), he was very active in Missions-locally and went to many foreign countries to share the gospel. He was a former member of Ensley Baptist Church in Birmingham and after moving to Mobile in 2013, he was a member of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church and was currently a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship. His passion for the gospel was a part of who he was as a person. Along the way, he has mentored, helped and encouraged a great many people.
After moving to Mobile to be closer to the family, he began taking art classes and discovered a talent and love for painting and drawing. He spent many hours at his drawing table and many people have been the recipients of his work. From 1997 to the present, he was very active in Bible Study Fellowship, an international , non-denominational Bible study, serving for many years as a group leader.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Samaritan's Purse, designating Operation Christmas Child, another one of his passions.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 10:00am-11:00am in the sanctuary of Westwood Baptist Church located at 1155 Alabaster Blvd. Alabaster, Alabama. 35007 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00am. Burial will follow immediately at Elmwood Cemetery. Dr. Matt Haines will be officiating. Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel directing.
