

Dale Glass Johnston of Auburn, Alabama passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was born in Canonsburg, PA on November 25, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Johnston and Violet L. Johnston, by his brother, James Howard Johnston, by his daughter Janet Lynn Johnston, by his first wife, Lynn Ritchie Johnston, and by his second wife, Stella Densmore Johnston.
He graduated from Cecil High School in Cecil, PA and Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA where he majored in Physics. He started his career at Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh as an Industrial Engineer and later went to work for Rust Engineering Company in Pittsburgh, PA and was transferred to Birmingham, AL in 1973. He retired from Rust after 23 years of service.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a life member of the Concordia Beneficial Society of Birmingham, a dance group. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends in the morning group at Altadena Golf and Country Club until it closed and then at Bent Brook Golf Club. He was a member of The Industrial Engineering Society. His favorite pastimes other than golfing were reading and woodworking.
Survivors are two sons, Mark A. Johnston (Cathy) of Opelika, AL; David S. Johnston (Maureen) of Columbia, SC; one daughter, Lisa Beth McGrady (Mike) of Gardendale, AL; three grandchildren, Erin McGrady Hall (Michael) of McCalla, AL; Matthew McGrady of Norfolk, VA; and Asa Johnston of Columbia, SC; one sister, Dorothy Carol Johnston of Phoenix, AZ; and one great grandson, Grady Hall of McCalla, AL.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Funeral services will be at the Elmwood Chapel after visitation.
