Doris Edna Smith

Doris Hewitt Smith, age 85 of Pawnee, AL made the transition to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. She was a very loving and hospitable person who enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She retired from the United States Postal Service after a long career as a Rural Letter Carrier. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James David Smith. Left cherishing her memories are her children, Cendy (Jim) Cooper, Virginia Smith, Donna Jo (Brooke Perry) Smith, and David (Valerie) Smith, sisters, Ruth Hewitt and Jean Lackey, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother in law, Tommy (Gloria) Smith, sister in law, Debe (John) Dawson and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12:00pm at Pawnee Baptist Church, 2370 Hewitt Drive Birmingham, AL 35217. Church visitation will begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow at the church’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pawnee Baptist Church to help build an accessibility ramp for their Fellowship Pavilion.
