Born December 27, 1955, in Atlanta, GA, to William S. and Emogene Huffman. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, William S. Huffman, Jr.; brothers-in-law Jeff Stewart, Milton Stewart, Charlie Burt, and Frederick Donaldson; and nieces Grace and Arielle Kerr.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sonya Stewart Huffman; his children Haley Carole, Jordan Ann, and Edgar Garland, Jr.; his sisters Suzahn Huffman-Donaldson and Saralynn (Stanley) Kerr; mother-in-law Carole Burt, sister-in-law Rhonda Burt, brother-in-law Michael Stewart; and Uncle Jack (Jane) Gregory, as well as much loved nephews and cousins.
Ed moved with his family to Birmingham in 1970, and it remained his adopted hometown. A graduate of Vestavia Hills High School and UAB, he counted the friends he made there, as well as a tight knit group of YMCA Camp Cosby alumni, as lifelong friends and supporters. This was especially true during the last difficult years of his life. Before his hospitalization, Ed was employed by the Hunt Oil Company and traveled worldwide from postings in Yemen, then in Peru, and finally in Iran.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Rittenhouse Village in Hoover, Mountainview Lake Retirement Village in Sylacauga, and NHC in Anniston, as well as Southern Care Hospice for their treatment throughout his extended illnesses,
A private graveside memorial service for family and close friends is planned for Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Camp Cosby, in care of the Birmingham YMCA.
