Maurice was the beloved husband of Juanita, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith in God, and unwavering commitment to one another.
At the age of 16, Maurice’s life took a dramatic turn when a farming accident left him with a broken spine. Doctors told him he would never walk again—but Maurice refused to accept that fate. Through determination and strength, he defied expectations and regained his ability to walk, setting the tone for a lifetime defined by perseverance.
Following his accident, Maurice completed his high school education through correspondence, demonstrating early on his discipline and sharp mind. Though his original dream of becoming a military pilot was no longer possible, he forged a new path. He enrolled at Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama), where he majored in accounting.
After graduating, Maurice achieved another remarkable milestone—becoming the youngest Certified Public Accountant in Alabama at the time. He built a career marked by diligence, integrity, and honesty that served not only his profession but also everyone who knew him.
Maurice and Juanita raised three children—Allan, Katherine, and Laura—instilling in them the values of hard work, education, and integrity. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Of all his accomplishments, Maurice considered his family to be his greatest success.
He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, not only financially but also through his guidance, wisdom, and his willingness to try to fix just about anything. He was a steady source of advice and encouragement, always emphasizing the importance of education and personal responsibility.
Maurice’s family will undoubtedly feel his absence in countless ways—especially, as they joke, the challenge of doing their taxes without him. His steadfast presence, quiet strength, and enduring love will be deeply missed.
Edward Maurice Marty leaves behind a family who will carry forward his legacy of resilience, intelligence, and love. His life stands as a testament to overcoming adversity and trusting God’s sovereignty over your life.
