Ernest was a super friend. He was the first Ham Operator I met. He got me to stop my car near Eastwood Mall just so he could say hello and welcome me to the Ham community. He was smiling then and was always smiling when I saw him. He was one of my Ham mentors. I will miss him deeply.

I can see where you get your smile from, Laura!  So sorry for your loss.  You can tell from his face he was a kind, loving man.

A wonderful man and good friend.  He will be missed.  Love and prayers to the family.

On behalf of the Beard, Hayden, Greene and Trowbridge families, thank you for your kind words. As we've often said in our family, Ernest never met a stranger. When he met you, you became his friend. Pure and simple. Today at his funeral, we were greeted by so many of the friends he made--whether at church, while square dancing, on the ham radio, or those whose paths crossed his personally or professionally. He is best defined by those left behind. Our deepest thanks to all.

Having spent some time together when Mr. Beard and my father made the Honor Flight together, I was reminded of his kind, gentlemanly manner with fondness. Laura, my condolences and also glad for his peaceful passing.

I will never forget the good times and smile that Ernest always had when I would see him at club meetings or hamfest.  We served together on the Board of the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club many years ago. He was a true friend and gentleman.  Our loss is God's gain.

Laura, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. He was a very kind and understanding gentleman. He helped me along in my short radio career. I don't have my parents either. May God go with you wherever you are.
