Erwin M. Vanstrum age: 90 of Hoover, Al. passed away on Wednesday December 07, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Mabel and Carl Vanstrum and his brother Vincent Vanstrum. Mr. Vanstrum was a member of Shades Crest Baptist Church and previously was a longtime member of Ensley Baptist Church. He was retired from U.S. Steel with over 30 years of service working in the sheet mill dept. and other various areas. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech University where he attained his degree in engineering. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his devoted wife of over 60 years Mrs. Betty Vanstum, his loving children Linda Griggs (Mike) and Mark Vanstrum. He is also survived by his brother Carl Wesley Vanstrum and a host of extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday December 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with the family receiving friends one hour prior to service from 10:00 a.m. til 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery. Dr. Brian Lee will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to Shades Crest Baptist Church or to your favorite charity.
