A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Johns-Ridouts Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham, AL for Florence Chadbourne Leonard, age 94, who passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 in Fort Lauderdale, Fl surrounded by her loving sons. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. She was a lifelong resident of the Birmingham area, raising her family in Homewood. Florence was a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church in Homewood, and later with Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Vestavia. Due to progression of Alzheimers she spent the last few years of her life in Virginia and Florida living with family. Florence graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham and was employed by Alcoa Aluminum in Office Park Mountain Brook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis B. Leonard; and sister, Lilly Mae Johnson; and brothers, Robert, Alfred, John and Jim Chadbourne. Florence is survived by her sons, Donald and Stephen Leonard; granddaughter, Kristina Leonard; and grandsons, Scott Leonard and Jonathan Leonard; brother, George Chadbourne, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to the many good friends who loved Mother so much. She remained sweet and loving all her life with the spirit of Jesus residing within.
