He was born on April 24, 1950, to Frank Sr. and Doris Chandler and was raised in Clay, Alabama. He married his beloved wife Janet on October 9th, 1973. Together, they had one child, Chris. He was a proud grandfather, loving brother, and a generous friend.
Frank’s life was dedicated to service. He served his country as a combat medic and later in life as a census official and a poll worker. He served his family, choosing to be the caregiver for his wife and mother up until his last day, even when he himself was in need of care. He served his community by uplifting the homeless and downtrodden, feeding the hungry, and giving people a second chance.
During his lifetime, Frank had many hobbies. He was an avid stamp collector and loved searching for arrowheads. He was a Civil War history buff. He enjoyed spending time in nature, gardening, hiking (especially the Smokey Mountains), and fishing. He was a sports fan, particularly of the UAB Lady Blazer basketball team.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Janet Chandler, his son Chris (Teresa) Chandler, two grandchildren, his sister Jeanelle Reed, and his mother, Doris McKellar. He was preceded in death by his father Frank Sr, and his brother, Kenneth.
A cremation has been arranged through Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel of Birmingham. A celebration of Frank’s life will be held October 11, 2025, at 2PM, at Faith United Methodist Church in Clay, Alabama, with Pastor Daniel officiating, and a potluck gathering immediately afterwards. All are encouraged to bring a favorite dish in his honor.
A private graveside service will be held for family at the Chandler family plot at Clay Fellowship Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations go to Faith United Methodist Church.
