

He was born on July 3, 1928. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 74 years, Hazel L. Mathews; and son, William F. Mathews of Texas.
Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Michael D. Mathews (Susan) of Trussville, AL; and Jeddy Mathews of Trussville, AL; Six Grandchildren, Kelly Wilson (Kylon); Sheila Ditzler (Adam); Craig Mathews (Liza); Brian Mathews (Michelle); Michelle Tice (Sammy); and April Evans (Scott); and 22 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Fred was a member of First Baptist Church of Trussville and a deacon in Baptist Churches for over 60 years. He was a soul winner and passed Gospel tracts out all over the world. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time in Gatlinburg, TN, Alabama Football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
His family will celebrate his life with visitation on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 12:30 – 2 at First Baptist Church of Trussville with his service beginning at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Trussville Building Fund.
