George A. Nelson Jr.

.NELSON, JR., GEORGE AUGUSTUS left us peacefully on Jan. 22, 2011 in Birmingham at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Reagan Nelson; sister Mary Josephine Wilson; parents George Augustus Nelson and Jessie Burnett Nelson. He is survived by his two sons, George A. Nelson, III (Mary Jane) and Thomas R. Nelson (Jane). He is also survived by his grandchildren Mary Stewart Nelson, George A. Nelson, IV (Jenny Turnham-fiancée), Sara Anne McKendree (Scott), and Thomas R. Nelson, Jr. Mr. Nelson was raised in Gadsden, attended the University of Alabama, and served in the Army during WWII. He moved to Birmingham where he owned Electronic Business Equipment, was a member of The Club, Vestavia Country Club and Canterbury United Methodist Church. He will be remembered for the joy that he found in life and shared with others. He was the ultimate gentleman, salesman, and friend. He loved golf, ballroom dancing and most of all, his wife and family. His family and friends have been blessed by his life. Graveside services will be conducted for the immediate family by Ridout's Trussville Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery on Jan. 26. Memorials may be made to Canterbury United Methodist Church.
