

Grace Davis Ellis age 96 of Homewood died May 19, 2012. She was born in Belle Ellen, Alabama on December 14, 1915 to Charles R. and Maude L. Davis. Mrs. Ellis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Ellis, Jr., 5 brothers, and one sister. She was active in many civic organizations, and one of the founders of Arlington Garden Club, where she served as a past president. She served in numerous Federated Garden Club activities. She was past president of Elyton Elementary School Parent Teacher Association. Mrs. Ellis was a former member of Walker Memorial Methodist Church where she served for many years as superintendent of the Junior Department. At the time of her death, Mrs. Ellis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham where she recently received a certificate honoring her half-century membership. She was also a member of the McDorman- Allen Sunday school class. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her son, Richard William Ellis (Kay) of Vestavia Hills; daughter, Gaye Nell Moss of Homewood, and son John Frank Ellis (Cathy) of Arvada, CO, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the charity of your choice or to the First United Methodist Church, 518 19th Street North, Birmingham, AL 35203 or to Affinity Hospice, 216 Aquarius Drive, Birmingham, AL 35209, is requested. The family wishes to thank dear friend Ami Goodnough and also Affinity Hospice for their outstanding care. Visitation will be at Elmwood Chapel from 2-3 pm on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, with the 3 pm funeral service immediately following.
