Hazel Oleta Freeman, 97, passed away May 28, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert S. Freeman; daughter, Mary Elease Carlisle; and 8 siblings. She is survived by her son, James Freeman (Margaret); 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Wayne Lawson; and sister, Frances Oneva Bain.
Hazel loved to sew and was very crafty. If your mind could conceive it, she could make it. She was very creative. She loved to cook and everyone loved her sweet treats. She also loved to talk, whether in person or on the phone.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 2pm at Birmingham's historic Elmwood Cemetery. All attendees are requested to meet at Elmwood Chapel Funeral home at 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211 by 1:45 to line up for the procession to the graveside. Hazel will be laid to rest beside her husband.
