

MANNING, HERBERT RUFUS JR., age 85, of Logan Martin Lake, formerly of Birmingham, passed away on June 25, 2010. Rufus was born in Clayton, Alabama. He attended Minnie Holman, Woodlawn High School, Castle Heights Military, and The University of Alabama. He was an Eagle Scout and a WWII Navy Veteran. He owned and operated Manning Service Company for over 50 years. He was a Little League baseball coach at Avondale Park. Rufus was a Shriner, a Mason, and an Elk. He enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing. he was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors and Logan Martin Lake. Mr. Manning was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Sara Manning and his wife of over 40 years, Frances Ruth Hester Manning. He is survived by his wife, Millie Love Manning; son, John Manning; daughter, Marcia Manning Greenhalgh; step-daughter, Linda Shanks; grandchildren, Eddie Greenhalgh, Ellen Roberts, Adam Greenhalgh, Hunter Manning, Haley Manning, Bryan Quinn, and Brad Quinn; great-grandchildren, Hastings Roberts, Manning Roberts and several other great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held following at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Pete Clifford will officiate.
