James Philip Hanley, age 70, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Friday May 15, 2020. James was born January 14, 1950 to James Woodward Hanley and Joan Merilyn Lebkuecher Hanley. He and his twin, Joe were the oldest of 6 children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Joseph Thomas Hanley, and brother in law, Earle W. Overton, III. He is survived by his siblings, Walter L. Hanley, Jan H. Overton, Mary H. Rait (John), Ruth H. Dunn (Joey); nieces, Crystal Smith (Mike), Meribeth Camp (Tyler), and Bryna Hanley; nephews, John S. Rait, Dr. Joey Willis, David Willis, and Earle W. Overton IV; great-nephews, Ethan Tyler Trimm and Grey Alexander Smith.
Jim served in the Air Force and the Army National Guard during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He loved to fish and be around the lake. He was a Bass Master. He also loved family gatherings during the holidays and birthdays. He was very active at his church. Jim was also a Knight of Columbus at Our Lady of Lourdes. Jim was a very kind man and everyone that knew him loved him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, at 1 pm at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 2 pm. Burial will be private at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
Due to Covid-19, state and local guidelines are followed with social distancing. A live stream of the service will begin on Facebook for those who can't attend at 2 pm.
