

Janis Louise Gates, a resident of Trussville, Alabama passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the age of 83. Janis was born on July 10, 1940 in Clarksville, TN and is preceded in death by her husband Chester Zeno Gates; her parents, Marth Louise Damron and Harlan Damron. She is survived by her two sisters Suzanne Mayo and Nancy Lynn Weir (Robert); her two step children Jacob Zeno Gates and Deborah Lynn Gates Mauricio; and three step grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Janis Gates was a graduate of Clarksville High School in Tennessee. She attended the University of Tennessee where she earned a degree in Nursing. She earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama. She spent 48 years as a committed and caring wife, many of which were in Center Point, Alabama. For 26 years she was a teacher of Nursing and later Director of Nursing at Jefferson State Community College where she inspired her students to serve their patients. Janis enjoyed cooking and was an avid collector of cookbooks. She travelled to Gulf Shores, Alabama with her husband where they loved to vacation. She was a loving caregiver for her mother and husband for several years.
Janis is resting with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her loved ones who have gone before her. She was much loved by her family and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, George Lynn Mayo; Brett Griffin Mayo; Robert Benjamin Weir (Amanda); Harlan Christopher Weir (Callie); and grandnephew Mark Alexander Mayo.
