Joan Y. Allsopp, age 86, of Birmingham, AL passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021, following a brief illness. Born in Montgomery, AL on August 11, 1935, she attended Shades Valley High School, Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she obtained her degree. She retired from Southern Progress Company (Southern Living Magazine) after 30 years as Clerical Fulfillment Manager. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen B. Allsopp Sr; her father, Edwin F. Young; mother, Nellie Mae Young; brother, Edwin Oliver (Ollie) Young (Orlando, FL); sister-in-law, Martha Allsopp Harris; sister-in-law, Mary John Allsopp and daughter-in-law, Janet T. Allsopp. She is survived by her sons, Stephen B. Allsopp, Jr. (Patricia) and William E. Allsopp (Germantown, TN); grandchildren Katherine Allsopp Thomas (Michael), Kimberly Allsopp Sullivan (Charles), Stephen B. Allsopp, III (Madeline), Ben Allsopp (Germantown, TN), Julie Allsopp (Germantown, TN); great-grandchildren Lillian Sullivan, Charles Sullivan, Jack Thomas, Jane Thomas, and Clarke Sullivan; Aunt Ruth S. Helms and sister-in-law Joanne Allsopp McGough. The family would like to give special thanks to Home Instead and the faithful caregivers they provided. A graveside service will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Birmingham, AL 35211. There will not be a public visitation. The family request that those that will be attending the service to meet at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL., 35211 by 10:45am on that day and we will process down to Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Valleydale Church, 2324 Valleydale Rd, Birmingham, AL 35244 and/or Edgewood Elementary School, 901 College Avenue, Homewood, AL 35209.
