John Robert Tigner Sr., 88, was born in Warrior, AL, on April 29, 1932 and departed this life on Monday, May 18, 2020, at his home in Birmingham, AL. He was the 7th child born to the late Howard and Carrie Tigner. He later met and married the love of his life, his wife Bertha McKee. After confessing Christ he joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Norwood under the leadership of Pastor Abraham Woods Sr., where he served as a deacon and in other ministries. Later, they joined 11th Ave Church of God in Christ where he sang in the choir and served on the deacon board. He loved God and served faithfully as a member of Faith Chapel Christian Center in Wylam under the leadership of Dr. Michael D. Moore where he sang in the Jubilee Choir. At the beginning of his health challenges that limited his traveling he joined the Church of the Highlands, Woodlawn location, under the leadership of Pastor Jamil Gilleylen where he served in the Worship Guide Ministry. Mr. Tigner served in the military in the United States Army. He retired after many years of working as an industrial painter of heavy equipment at the Joe Money Machinery Company. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Mrs. Bertha McKee Tigner. Under this union was born Brenda (Claude), Jcynthia (George, deceased), John Jr. (Kathy), Beverly (Jesse Jr.) Dwight (Felicia), Audrey (Anthony) all of Birmingham, Al. A loving sister Mrs. Parthenia Johnson, brother in law, Mr. Arthur (Brenda) McKee, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. A special thank you goes to our devoted team of caregivers, Carolyn Burson, Jackie Long, Erica Ellington, the VA Home Health, and St Vincent’s Home Health and Hospice. The family will celebrate his life with a visitation on Friday, May 22, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. There will be a private graveside held at a later time.
