

John "Johnny" Ward was born on July 09,1942 to Edith and Patrick J Ward in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from John Carroll High School and attended the University of Alabama until he joined the Navy in 1962. He served aboard the Presidential Command Ship U.S.S. Northampton, "The Grey Ghost." He was a member of the Engineering Department as an Electrical and Interior Communications Engineer.
Johnny met the love of his life, Gloria, just after he joined the Navy. They kept up a long distance relationship for the remainder of his time in service. They were married for 49 years, when Gloria passed away in 2014. They were blessed with two children Steve and Paige.
Johnny loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He coached little league baseball, took family fishing trips and enjoyed hunting with his FIL John Curtis and Nephew Lesley Jones. He was always outdoors gardening and working in the yard.
Johnny could fix anything! His motto was " If it ain't broke, I can't fix it!"
Johnny was preceded in death by his Wife Gloria C Ward, Father Patrick J Ward, Mother Edith L Ward, Father in Law John H Curtis, Mother in law Alma R Curtis, Brother in law Gaines F Jones, Sister in Law Sue Jones, Sister in Law Shirley Curtis and Sister in law Elizabeth A Ward.
He is survived by his Brother Joseph Patrick Ward, Son John S Ward (Susan), Daughter Paige Roy, Granddaughter Renee E Roy, Grandson Blake S Roy, Granddaughter Elizabeth W Asher (Cason) Great Grandson Malakai S Ferguson, Great Grandson Elijah J Ferguson and Great Granddaughter Anna Clare Asher.
Visitation will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover Friday February 6th, 2026 at 10:00 AM with Funeral Mass at 11:00AM Blessing of the grave and Military Honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
