Joseph E. Captain Jr.

CAPTAIN, JR., JOSEPH EUGENE Born June 2, 1922 passed away March 13, 2012. He served as an officer on the CV-III in the Merchant Marines. He retired from U.S. Steel with over 40 years of service, and also served as president of Local 2210. He owned and operated Captain's Drug Store in Ensley and over 100 other enterprises. He served on the Ensley Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW, AMVETS, and American Legion. He is survived by his son, Joseph Captain, III and wife, Sandy; three grandchildren, Natasha (Richard) Holt, Spring Hill, TN, Nicole Captain, Joseph (Cassie) Captain of the Birmingham area; and six great grandchildren, Allia and Natalie Garrett, Jordan Lawley, Colton, Ashlyn, and Aiden Captain, and Blake Holt; two sisters, Mary Ann Vines of Montgomery, and Agnes Cost of Birmingham; a nephew, nieces, and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Smith Captain, and their son, John Thomas Captain, and two sisters. The family will receive visitors from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Chapel with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. A very special thanks to Barbara Blanks for her compassion and devotion shown to our Papa and our family during his illness over the past two years and to the other staff members of Angel Care.
