Joyce (Ganny) Carden, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 14th. She was a woman of faith and a long-term member of Wylam Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove. She was the force that kept this family grounded and the glue that held us together. Her legacy lives on through her children, as she was the matriarch of a five generation family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse of 60 years, Lewis (Jr.) Carden, 2 sisters and 5 brothers and son-in-law, Larry Johnson.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Chafin (Jim), Connie Pyron (Richard), Kim Johnson and one son, Gene Carden (Patti). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 10:00am-11:00am in the chapel of Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW. Birmingham, Al. 35211 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00am. Burial will be held after the Celebration of Life Service in Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor Glenn Sandifer will be officiating. Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
