Laverne Roger Matthews passed away December 1, 2023 at the age of ninety nine. He was a resident of the Veterans Administration in Pell City, AL. He is preceded in death by his father; Lee Bert Matthews, mother; Hulda Matthews, wife ;Carolyn Ogden Bryant Matthews, and brother; Eugene Raymond Matthews. He leaves behind his son; Patrick Matthews( Carla Gore) and grand daughter; Kathryn Lynn Matthews Brooks(Jason) and sister; Evelyn Matthews Siebert and family.
Laverne was a WWII Veteran and served in the US Army in Europe. Laverne worked for US Steel for many years and retired from the Alabama Power Company. He was loved by family and friends and will be missed. Please send donations in his honor to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Hoover, Alabama in lieu of flowers.
The cryptside service will be private in Elmwood Cemetery.
