Leonard Winston Hays, 80, known to all as “Bubba,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Bubba was born November 29, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Leonard and Anne Hays.
He was predeceased by his parents; along with his sister, Judy Ellis and niece, Anne-Marie Graphos.
Those who are left to cherish Bubba’s love and memories include his sisters, Josie (Pete) Graphos and Liz (Mark) Hays-Easter; nephew, Peter (Staci) Graphos; grand-nephews, James and Win Graphos; other family members and friends.
Bubba retired from the United States Postal Service where he worked as a supervisor after attending Samford University. Prior to that, he proudly served his country as Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, earning a Purple Heart for his bravery in Vietnam in 1967.
He and his varied interests, including archaeology, astronomy, scuba diving, photography, reading and music were a great influence on his family members and those who were lucky enough to know him. Bubba was one of a kind.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Brook, where Bubba lived for the last year of his life, along with the staffs at Aspire Physical Recovery Center and Grandview Medical Center for providing his most recent care.
