Lois Bright Taylor Whitten

Lois Bright Taylor Whitten was born on October 28, 1934 and left our world to reunite with family and friends on March 9, 2020. Her middle name “Bright” was a family surname, but it was apropos for beautiful Lois because she has always been seen as a calm bright light helping guide the way for others.

She leaves behind (knowing she will see them again) her daughters Melissa Whitten Bennett Rogers (husband Dr. Timothy Rogers), Leigh Anna Warren (husband Bill Bonniwell), 4 adored and adoring grandchildren John Lindsay Bennett, Laureal Bennett Graham (husband Shawn), Mallory Bennett White (husband Derek), and Nicole Lindsey Warren (partner Joe Cusato). She was also fortunate to have 3 step-grandchildren whom she welcomed wholeheartedly into the family: Andrew Bonniwell, Brian Rogers, and Sean Rogers. Her 4 great grandchildren brought her joy and delight and she will be greatly missed by them: McCullyn Taylor Graham, Bella Bennett Graham, Jackson Daniel Wyatt, Mary Catherine White, and Sarah Elisabeth White. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Loved ones who departed this life before her include husband Dr. Robert Lee Whitten and son Robert Lindsay Whitten, parents Sterling Taylor and Emmie Lindsay Taylor, sister Peggie Taylor Crim, and brother Tommy Taylor.

Lois taught 8th grade English and math helping to support her husband as he completed medical school. She was a lifelong student who loved to study, question, and learn. She became interested in the works of Gurdjieff and was a member of Birmingham’s Gurdjieff Society. Ahead of her time, Lois practiced yoga movements (asana) from the time she was 28 until her death. Always active, she also enjoyed playing tennis.

She is loved and will be greatly missed, but the beautiful soul she was will continue to shine her calm bright light influencing others for generations to come.

Due to the concerns surrounding Covid-19, there will not be a service at this time. She will be interred next to her son Robert at Elmwood Cemetary Saturday March 21.
