Lucy McCombs Rose, age 79 of Cahaba Heights passed away on Wednesday July 8, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father, Pate Odis McCombs, her adoptive mother, Carolyn Ivy Johnson, and her brother, Robert Joseph McCombs. She is survived by her husband, Jeremy Douglas Rose; son, Robert Douglas Rose (Sharla); daughters, Amy Rebecca Rose Jones (Chad) and Anne Elizabeth Rose; granddaughters, Mary Claire Rose, Allison Rose Jones, and Jessica Lane Jones; brother, David D. McCombs (Shirley); and sister Mary W. Weber (Richard).
Lucy was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and received an M.A. degree in Science Education from UAB in 1986. She was employed by Southern Research Institute for 36 years as a research chemist. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. She had a passion for literacy, that led her to volunteer for the Library in the Forest in Vestavia Hills.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 1 pm at Elmwood Chapel. A celebration of Lucy's life will follow at 2 pm.
