Lucy Love Wilkey died on October 6, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Wilkey, her parents, Joseph C. and Hattie P. Love, five sisters: Emma Jeffries, Margaret Weeks, Mary Nitz, Gertrude England and Bess Lide, and one brother, Joe Love. She is survived by her daughter, Grace Wilkey Reed (John) and her son, F. Steven Wilkey (Helen). She is also survived by her grandsons Jeremy Reed (Shaina), Nathaniel Reed and Justin McMickens, and great-grandchildren Elijah Reed and Jada Kennedy.
Lucy was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 1, 1930. She graduated from West End High School in 1948. On August 29, 1954 she married Frank Wilkey and they were together nearly 43 years until his death in 1997.
Lucy was a very faithful long-time member of Westside Alliance Church and later Vestavia Alliance Church where she served in the choir and children’s ministries, and in the WMPF (Women’s Missionary Prayer Fellowship) and Alliance Women ministries of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
Lucy was a medical transcriptionist for several physicians during her working years, including Dr. Charles Wilson and Dr. Paul Burleson.
The family wishes to thank Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation Services and New Beacon Hospice for their compassionate, gentle and loving care of Lucy, and their continuing support of her family.
Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Chaplain John Mitchell of New Beacon Hospice officiating. Memorials may be made in Lucy’s memory to:
