

Mable Hallmark Manar, 95, went peacefully to be with the Lord on July 11, 2015, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mable was born in Etowah County, Alabama, on November 9, 1919, to Minnie Davidson Hallmark and William Thomas Hallmark. Mable graduated from Fairfield High School in 1937. She married Otis Jay Manar, Jr. in 1939, and they were blessed with two children, Otis and Pam. Mable and Otis owned the Fairfield Produce Company in Fairfield, Alabama. She then took accounting courses from the Auburn University extension in Birmingham, Alabama, and worked as an accountant for Birmingham Trust National Bank until she retired. Mable lived with enthusiasm and love for God, family, and friends. She was a founding member of the Fairfield Highlands Methodist Church in Fairfield Highlands, Alabama, and later a member of the First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition her devotion to her family and church and her career, Mable loved to travel, had an eye for fashion and a taste for sweets, enjoyed music, and was a gardener, an artist, and an avid football fan. She was president of the Sigma Pi fraternity Mother's Club at Auburn University and attended football games as often as she could. Using her talents to serve God and others, she was a longtime volunteer for and treasurer of the Birmingham Area Command of the Salvation Army. For many years, she also enjoyed coordinating trips to various locations with her 55+ Club at her church. Her joyful spirit and sense of humor enlivened every locale and event with which she was involved. Mable is survived by her children and their spouses, Otis Jay Manar III and his wife Ann, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Pam Manar Yates and husband Steve, also of Birmingham. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Beth Manar, Martha Manar, Monica Romano, Tony Manar, Eric Yates and wife Kim, Lacey Castellanos and husband Frank, and William Yates and wife Lisa, and five great-grandchildren, Isobel Manar-Fike, Noah Castellanos, Nicolas Castellanos, Grant Castellanos, and Tripp Yates. She is also survived by her brother Gordon Hallmark and wife Catherine and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Otis Jay Manar, Jr., and her brothers Eston Hallmark and William Hallmark. A funeral service for Mable Hallmark Manar will be held July 15, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Chapel at 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211 with the family receiving friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Flowers should be sent to Elmwood Chapel or donations can be sent to the Salvation Army in her name.
