On January 3, 2019, Mary Claude (Momma B) Bentley went home to be with her Lord. She was born December 21, 1930 in Tallassee, Alabama (Elmore County) to Ernest Turner and Claude Turner. Mary was the only girl and had four brothers: Billy Turner, Bud Turner, Robert Turner, and Paul Turner. Mary grew up in a close-knit community on the eastern side of the Tallapoosa River where many of the resident men worked at nearby Mill. Mary attended Tallassee High school where she was chosen by the student body to be in the Homecoming Court.
Soon, Mary attracted and married the love of her life, William L. (Bill) Bentley and together they had 3 children: James Ernest Bentley (Paula); William Hal Bentley; Kay Bentley Merkl (Danny). She has been blessed with four surviving grandchildren: Ashley Bentley Mullinax (Asher); Stephanie Bentley, Lauren Merkl Williamson (Keith), Daniel Lee Merkl Jr. (Sarah). Great-grandchildren include: Will Mullinax, Pey-ton Grace Williamson and Braxton Keith Williamson.
Mrs.. Bentley has been a faithful follower and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ through her membership at Hunter Street Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and is survived by a host of friends and spiritual family members.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary C. Bentley will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00 am in Hunter Street Baptist Church located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244.
The family will welcome guests at the HSBC Chapel from 10:00-11:00 am before the service with a brief graveside memorial at Elmwood Cemetery immediately following the service.
