A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11:00am at Johns Rideout’s Elmwood Chapel & Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30am prior to the service, Rev. Tim New, Pastor Bethlehem United Methodist Church, will be officiating.
Nonie was born on December 16, 1932, in Praco, AL, to parents Maude and Albert Watts. She grew up in Cordova, AL and graduated from Cordova High School, where she was a proud Blue Devil cheerleader. Nonie’s life’s work was dedicated to being a loving mother of four daughters and building a remarkable and adoring family over multiple generations. She was a devoted wife to Jimmie for 68 years and the undeniable matriarch of the Holmes family.
Nonie was a longtime associate of the United Methodist Women and faithful member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She was an avid Alabama fan and spent every fall Saturday cheering on the Crimson Tide. She also enjoyed the tradition of the annual family beach trips that started in 1954 and remain to this day.
Survivors include her husband James “Jimmie” Holmes of Hueytown, AL, daughters Kay Karr (Danny), Rebecca Holmes, Sherri Miles (David), Anita Cusimano (Chris), grandchildren Michelle Miles, Stephanie Miles, Brian Karr (Heather), Kris Karr (Jennifer), Katherine Miles, Elizabeth Dawson (Phillip), Christopher Cusimano and Christian Cusimano, great-grandchildren Miles Mitchell, Clara Karr, Alex Karr and Katelyn Karr and numerous nieces and nephews. Nonie is preceded in death by her parents Maude and Albert Watts, brothers James Watts and Ray Watts, and sister Dolores Watts Pate.
