She moved to Birmingham in 1950 and met Sam Holland who she would marry in February, 1951. They were happily married for 30 years. Myra and Sam were devoted members of 85th Street Baptist Church where Sam was the organist and she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, nursery worker - and everything in between. Sam (Sammy) was born and Terry two years later and Myra and Sam were loving, devoted parents. Sam sadly passed away in November,1981 of cancer. From that point on Myra devoted herself even more to her children but now joyfully to her grandchildren. She adored everyone of them: Tyler, Ryne, Casey and Lane - and spent many hours rocking, reading books, playing whatever they asked, having sleepovers - and they loved her dearly. She was a wonderful cook and began a tradition of preparing Sunday lunch, which always consisted of homemade everything, and this brought all of her family together, children- spouses and grandchildren. She continued this for 20+ years and even the great grands began to come and enjoy. There were many other family traditions, but this one was special. Myra had three sisters - Mary, Carolyn and Tamara - and the bond between them was very close. They enjoyed bringing their families together for any occasion but especially gathering at Grandmother Browns in Ozark, AL. Myra also had a large circle of friends who she loved dearly.
Myra was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sam Holland; her sisters, Mary Ellen Mammoser and Carolyn Amanda Burkett. She is survived by her children, Sam Holland (Becky) and Terry Schlitz (Randy); her four grandchildren: Tyler Holland (Caylan), Casey Holland, Ryne Schlitz (Caylen) and Lane Fortenberry (Richie), her 10 great grandchildren and her sister Tamara Linda Bishop.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East in Trussville on Friday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation held one hour prior to the graveside at Rideout's Trussville Chapel.
