

She was born July 12,1939 in the Mountain Village of Tripi, in Sparta Greece.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers and her husband George. She is survived by her sister Ann Aspiotis Fortunis, nephew Dean Fortunis (Sheila) and niece Linda Fortunis Brown (Jon).
Potoula moved to New York City at the age of 27 where she became a very successful seamstress of designer fur coats for Sach’s Fifth Avenue. She married George Papadopoulos in 1981 and moved to Birmingham to be closer to her sister and best friend Ann. Potoula was an animal lover and often had as many as 6 cats. She enjoyed all types of gardening- flowers, vegetables and fruits. Especially Figs. She was an avid baker and for many years supplied several local restaurants with her prize winning Pasticho, Moussaka and baklava. She looked forward every year to cooking and volunteering for The Greek Festival at her home church of Holy-Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
She was deeply loved and will be missed by many friends and family.
A Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, located at 307 19th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35233, on December 16, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
The Funeral Service will follow at Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral located at 307 19th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35233, on December 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
Immediately following the Funeral Service there will be a graveside service where Potoula will be laid to her final resting place at Elmwood Cemetery 600 Martin Luther King Drive Birmingham, Alabama 35211.
