
HURST, PAUL THOMAS, age 76 of Ragland, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, O.C. Hurst; mother, Annie Mae Hurst; brother, Ralph Hurst; and wife, Carole Sue Garner Hurst. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Norris Hurst; daughters, Angel Bowles (Rick) and Laurie Peters (Ben); grandsons, Jacob and Nick Peters; brother, David Ray Hurst (Donna), stepson, Frankie Whitlock (Cynthia); sister-in-law, Pat Norris Joiner; 3 sister-in-laws; 3 brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, B. R. and Maurine Stephens, Mack and Shirley Southerland and all of his brothers-in-arms from the 117th Air Refueling Wing. Paul was born in Pinson and graduated from Tarrant High School. He joined the Air Force at age 17 and served 33 years retiring as Fire Chief from the 117th Air Refueling Wing. He joined the Birmingham Police Department on July 4, 1963 and served for 22 years, then spent 12 years with the Leeds Police Department and retired at age 70 from Jefferson Juvenile Detention Center after 7 years. Paul was a member of the FOP and very instrumental in getting the Fallen Warrior Statue placed outside the Criminal Justice Building. He was a Mason for many years. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. There will be a graveside service at Forest Crest Cemetery beginning at 11 AM.
