Schroeder, Richard Mitchell age 88 of Birmingham passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011. He was born in Chicago, IL and received his BSME from the University of Illinois. He was a registered engineer and was a member of NSPE, ASHRAE, SAME, and AIAA. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. He loved golf, fly fishing, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard C. and Alice M. Schroeder. Survivors include his life partner of 43 years, Marie Holbrooks; daughters, Penny Evans Mulvihill (Michael) and Deanna Phillips (late George, Sr.); grandchildren, Eric Evans (Marta), George Phillips, Jr., and Chelsea Phillips; great grandchildren, Chloe and Lucas Evans. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 at 11:00 am at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with visitation one hour prior to service. A graveside service will follow the chapel service at 1:15 pm at Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard’s memory to Disabled American Veterans, 238 2nd Ave North, Birmingham, AL 35204.
