Bill Barber of Hoover passed away at age 72 on January 8th after a brave fight with cancer. Mr. Barber was born and raised in the Ensley section of Birmingham and was baptized at Martin Memorial UMC. He was a proud graduate of Ensley High School and the University of Alabama. After graduating college, Mr. Barber served his country as a lieutenant in the Air Force. Upon completing his military service, he worked primarily in personnel for Stockham Valve, American Bosch and Protective Life before taking a job at Alagasco where he spent the remaining 36 years of his career before retiring in 2004. Mr. Barber is survived by his mother Dorothy, his loving wife of over 48 years Sara, his sons Jud(Beverly) and Dan(Stephanie) and his grandchildren Emily, Jacob and Sara. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Green Valley Baptist Church in Hoover with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:30 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Children’s Hospital or the Big Oak Ranch.
