How appropriate to celebrate on Valentne's Day a man who's life on this Earth expanded love everywhere he went to be celebrated on Valentine's. Bob's wit and jovial nature created
smiles on the faces of anyone who was honored enough to interact with him. The love in his being was contagious and he imparted his kindness
to everyone that he met. Even in CICU at St. Vincent's East, where several of the nurses are saintly and amazing, during his last days on the planet he still managed to mouth and give motions of gratitude even though his speeech was thwarted by a tube. His nature made it such a pleasure to care for him and be in his
gracious presence even with any discomfort he had during his month long bout with pneumonia. His family was by his side all the while holding his hand
and soaking up his last expressions of love, wit and wisdom. His wisdom and wit led him to be published in several publications and be the source of
support and counseling for co-workers, friends, family, etc. Bob's deep spiritual and philosophical nature combined with his life of service and relationship to God helped
him impart invaluable wisdom that will help support the world by way of those who love and honor him. As his son told him, "Every smile and all good I do is a tribute to you"!
Bob would say his ultimate accomplishment would be the love he shared with his family and friends, "the connections" as he referred to it.
In Bob's words, " Life is all about connections. The premier emotion is love." Bob did an excellent job sustaining his connections; connections to
his family, friends, church and community. He provided well for his family and all of the stray kids his children brought home.
He was a member of Huffman Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, led the Royal ambassadors for a time, taught Sunday School for 25 years and was a memeber of the choir.
His robust baratone voice could be heard filling the chapel each Sunday before he got sick often gracing the congregation with his soul filled solos.
His musical prowess started at the ripe age of 7 years old when he sang his first solo at Church. He went on to win a state championship playing tuba for Robert E. Lee High school in Montgomery where he was born and lived much of his childhood. He was also in the Jazz Dance Band playing stand up bass, choir director for a spell and sang at a numerous weddings and funerals.
Bob later moved to Birmingham to attend Howard College where he met the love of his life, Nancy. He graduated in the last graduating class before the name was changed to Samford University with a major in History and a minor in Music. He went on to graduate from the Birmingham School of Law 1978 and was a Claims Negotiating Attorney for State Farm Insurance. In his life Bob also served the community, president of East Lake Lions Club in 90 & 91 and coaching children's sports etc.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert E Bonnett Sr. and his mother Catherine Henderson. He is survived by his wife Nancy Gillies Bonnett, his children Robert "David" Bonnett and
Laura Catherine Moon, granddaughter Zoe (one of his greatest joys), brothers Tom Bonnett and Bill Bonnett
