Johnston, Robert D. “Bob” (Poorboy), age 87 passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011. Mr. Johnston was retired from US Steel after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII where he was awarded several medals. He is preceded in death by his parents, E.D. and Offie Johnston; his brother, E.D. Johnston, Jr. and his sister, Jeanette Schmidt. He is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Ruth Thompson Johnston; his sons, John (Cathy), Kerry (Laura), Rick (Linda), and Frank (the late Janet); his daughters, Kathy Hoagland, Bridgett Willbanks, and Jena Johnston; also, he is survived by his 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 from 2:30 til 4:00 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with funeral services Monday from the Pineview Baptist Church in Irondale at 2:00 PM lieing in state from 12 Noon til service time. Rev. Stanley Layton and Rev. Billy Evans will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery (Grantswood Baptist).
