Robert Lewis Martin

Deacon Robert L. Martin was born on January 26, 1932 to the late Joe Martin and Minnie L. Watts. He became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Jemison, Alabama at an early age. He was married to the late Vivian Buie-Martin for 47 years, and this union was blessed with five children. He joined Union Missionary Baptist Church in Columbiana, Alabama under the leadership of Reverend W. E. Jones and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, until his health began to decline. He served honorably in the United States Army. Deacon Robert L. Martin was called home to be with God on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 5:30 a.m. He was preceded in death by his six brothers and six sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memories; two sons, Vernon Martin, Columbiana, Alabama, Bruce (Elaine) Martin, Wilsonville, Alabama; three daughters, Barbara Booker, Brenda Kidd, and Diane Martin, Columbiana, Alabama; three grandchildren, Kwana (Roderick) Stephens, Moody, Alabama, Justus Martin, Frisco, Texas, and Kobe Martin, Brooklyn, New York; two great-granddaughters, Kendall Stephens, Bronxville, New York, Riley Stephens, Moody, Alabama; one sister in-law, Earnestine Walker; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 3pm until 5pm at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home and on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 12pm until 1pm at, Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1910 Highway 47, Columbiana, Alabama. A Celebration of Mr. Martin's life will follow at 1pm. He will be laid to rest at Wallace Campbell Cemetery.
