Robert S. Newman, age 83 of Birmingham, AL died on December 14, 2013. He received a degree in Chemistry from Auburn University in 1954. He worked for U.S. Steel and Michelin Tire Co. in Opelika. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bertie Newman; sister, Virginia Betts; brother, Ralph Newman. He is survived by his brother, Charles Donald Newman and his wife Rebecca; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 1 PM until service time at 2 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association 3918 Montclair Road Birmingham, AL 35213.
