ROSE B. ELLIS, age 91, of Pelham, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022. Rose was born on December 27, 1930, in Decatur, AL., to the late Robert Daniel and Mary Magdeline Bearden. As a young girl, she grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Inglenook Elementary School and graduated from Phillips High School. In addition, she attended Auburn University and Howard College (Samford). One of her earliest jobs was working with the Birmingham Police department. Rose was very involved in her children's activities and schools by participating in and leading the Inglenook Elementary School PTA as President. Also, she was the President of the Board of Directors at Inglenook Academy. In addition, she was a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in the Birmingham Public Schools. Rose was involved in her community by volunteering with Shelby Baptist Medical Center. She was incredibly proud of her involvement and received the Honorary Lifetime Volunteer Award from Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Rose was a member of Pelham First Baptist Church.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Ellis, and her parents.
Those left to cherish her memories are children, Karen Harrington (Bill) of Hoover, Alabama, and Missy Svensen ( Rob) of Anniston, Alabama; grandchildren, Jay Harrington (Brooklyn) of Jacksonville, Alabama, Megan Cumbie (Gaines) of Cleveland, Ohio, Alex Svensen (Tara) of Huntsville, Alabama, Ross Svensen of Atlanta, Georgia and Jack Svensen of Birmingham, Alabama; six great-grandchildren, Adele, Kenna, Hadlei, Beckett, Halston and Adler, her sister, Fann Culpepper of Los Angeles, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service for Rose will be held Monday, October 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Forest Hill Cemetery, 431 60th St. N., Birmingham, AL 35212. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
