

Roy Yvette Grant Clements, the only offspring of the late Minuard Clifford Grant and Pauline Norris Grant, was a lifelong resident of Birmingham, Alabama. She was educated in the Birmingham City Schools having attended elementary school at Kingston Elementary and Alberta Shields. Upon graduation with honors in 1959 from A. H. Parker High School, she enrolled at Talladega College and received the Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics.
Mrs. Clements continued her pursuit of higher education which resulted in a Master’s of Science Degree in Library Science from Atlanta University, and an AA Certification -Secondary (Certificate of Advanced Study) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as Certification in Administration and Supervision. Later in life, Roy Yvette earned the Business Management Certificate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Special Studies.
Mrs. Clements upon completion of her studies at Talladega College married the late John Nathan Clement and the couple was blessed with a beautiful daughter whom they honored with the name of her mother.
The professional experience of Mrs. Clements reflects her diverse training and inherent abilities. She began her career immediately after graduation from Talladega as the Dean of Women and an Instructor at Mary Holmes Junior College in West Points, MS. Other professional assignments include: Teacher, New Castle High School; Librarian/ Media Specialist Wenonah and Carver High School; Assistant Principal, Carver High School; Interim Special Assistant to Interim Superintendent, Birmingham School System; Executive Director of Local School Administrators; Birmingham City Schools; Notary Public, Alabama State -at-Large; and part -time Cataloger Librarian, Main Branch Birmingham Public Library. Following retirement, Roy Yvette became a full-time Family Service Sales Consultant at Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Career related experiences prompted and complemented Mrs. Clements many communities related involvements as an advocate and a leader. To name a few: Past Local, State and National President of Talladega Alumni Association; Alumni Representative, the Talladega College Trustee Board; Past President and Member, Birmingham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; First Female Appointee, Fourth Avenue YMCA Board of Directors; Coordinator, Birmingham UNCF; Retiree, United Teacher Association (BERA); and the list continues.
Always involved, but never seeking, Roy Yvette, was most proud of having received: Birmingham UNCF Awards for coordinating various activities of the drive; Distinguished Alumnus Award by Talladega College National Alumni Association; the Miles College & Partner in Education Award; the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Woman of Distinction Award; Outstanding Leadership and Service Award from Birmingham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and the Service Award from the Alabama Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights for four consecutive years.
Mrs. Roy Yvette Clément’s Introduction to the glorious Gospel of the Kingdom by Dr. Ronald L. Spratt in November 1999 proved to be her most rewarding and precious life experience. She recounted how Bishop Willie M. Jones Jr. and Bishop Juanita Cade Jones authorized her membership into the Assembly of Devine Reality, Incorporated. Subsequently, on May 26, 2002, she was licensed to be a minister of the gospel and was appointed by the Bishop. Elder Clements was later appointed Director of Van Service, a ministry in which she became passionately engaged.
Elder Clements was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Norris Grant Everett-Craig; her father, Manuard Clifford Grant; step-fathers, William (Buck) Everett and Sam Craig; grandparents, Paul and Emma Jean Harris Norris and Anna King; aunt, Ellarine D. Norris Edwards; uncles, Warren Norris, Sr. and Roy Norris, Sr. first cousins, Joseph Norris and Warren Norris, Jr., second cousins, Jeannette Robinson Underwood and Louise Robinson; former husband, John Nathan Clements; mother and Father-in-law, Rebecca Prewitt Clements and Johnnie Clements.
Elder Clements transitioned into the spiritual realm February 14, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Roy Yvette Clements Comeaux; a devoted granddaughter, Janae Comeaux; first cousins, Ellarine Warren Edwards Stroud, Paul James Edwards (Birmingham), Willard Norris (Brooklyn, NY) Judith Norris Johnson (Lithonia, GA), Debra Norris Johnson (Pontiac, MI), Sharon K. Norris-Shelton (Belleville MI), Roy Norris, Jr. and Janet E, Norris (Pontiac, MI); second cousins, Patricia Underwood Williams, (Greensboro, GA) and Deborah Underwood Watkins (Birmingham, AL), other relatives, many friends, sorors of Birmingham Alumnae Chapter, and the entire family of the Assembly of Divine Reality, Incorporated.
