

Samuel Oldham, age 90 of Midfield, AL went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at UAB Medical West Hospital. Samuel Oldham, affectionately known as “Uncle Sammy” was born on April 22, 1934 to the late Clemmie Oldham (Flora Herring) Oldham in Bessemer, AL. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, AL. He joined the United States Army June 4, 1953 and served as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged October 15, 1956. In December of 1954, Samuel married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Jane Layton and to this union two children were born. They moved to Chicago, IL in October 1956 where he retired from Republic Engineered Steele after 30 years of dedicated service. After retirement they moved to Midfield, AL in 1996.
He joined church at an early age and was a member of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ under the leadership of Prince N.H. Pollard, Sr. and Apostle Michael D. Pollard, Sr. and currently under the leadership of Dr. Christopher L. Ruffin, Sr.
Samuel loved attending church when he could. He was a fun loving and comical person. He loved his family. Samuel Oldham was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and neighbor.

Oldham, Birmingham, AL; son, Cletus Oldham, Flint, MI; grandson, Johnathan Oldham, Flint, MI; niece, Harriet (Ralph) Douglas, Saginaw, MI; nephew, Elder Darrel (Tara) Williams, Union City, GA; Brother-in-law, John V. Layton, Los Angeles, CA and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother James Edward (Sarah) Oldham, grandsons, Larry D. Richardson, Jr. and Matthew Oldham and a sister-in-law Rosetta (Alexander) Williams
