Sheila Reneé Mackey entered into her eternal home on April 14, 2025, at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Rodney Mackey; her parents, Avery Leon and Cheryl Joan Colburn; and her grandson, Darryl Clinton Davis Jr.
Sheila is survived by her son, Zachary Adam Mackey; her stepdaughter, Rhonda Alesce (Michael); Rhonda’s daughter, Sarah; her grandson, Riley Wyatt Mackey; her sister, Jenny Colburn Thomas (Paul Jr.); and a large extended family of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sheila was born on Jan. 18, 1958, at Chicksands Air Force Base outside of London, England, where her father, Avery, was stationed. Raised in a military family, Sheila traveled extensively across the United States. A gifted child, she was double-promoted in school and graduated high school at just 16 years old while living in Honolulu, Hawaii. She pursued higher education in Nebraska and later continued her studies in Alabama.
In the mid-1970s, Sheila began her career with South Central Bell as a telephone operator. She loved her job and her coworkers, eventually rising to a managerial position. She proudly retired after 31 years of dedicated service.
On Dec. 14, 1979, Sheila married the love of her life, Ronald Rodney Mackey. One of her greatest joys was becoming a mother to Zachary, the family’s first grandson, whom she cherished deeply.
Sheila had many hobbies and interests. She loved to swim, do cross-stitch, and read — particularly books by her favorite author, Mary Higgins Clark. She also collected many portraits as well as Thomas Kinkade cottages. Her happiest moments were spent with her son and grandson.
Sheila was truly one of a kind, known for her vibrant sense of humor and her ability to bring joy to others through laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
