

Stanley Compton Powell, 90 of Helena Alabama passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was born on April 13, 1930 in Furman, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Graham Vivian Powell and Eva Jane Bailey Powell. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jean Moon Powell; Children Debra Powell Daw (James), Carol Powell Gann (Keith), Stanley C. Powell, Jr., Merrie Powell Jackson (Michael); grandchildren, Tamara Hester Thrasher, Terry A. Hester, Jr. (Amy), Michael K. Gann, Jr.,( Ritika), Stephen P. Gann (Rebecca), Shelby Powell Babbidge (John), Stanley C. Powell, III (Leigh Anne), Eli C. Jackson, Seth D. Jackson; great grandchildren, Logan Thrasher, Taylor Hester, Parker Hester, Maggi Powell, Wailon Powell, Walter Gann and many other relatives and friends. He graduated from Ensley High School and Birmingham Southern College and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from June 24, 1948 to June 23, 1950. Stanley worked for the Birmingham News as a carrier, A.M. Ribe Associates, O’Neal Steel, and Griffin Wheel Company a subsidiary of Amsted Industries Inc. for 33 ½ years. He was a member of the Birmingham Traffic and Transportation Club, Southern & Southwestern Railway Association, Railway Progress Institute, Air Brake Association, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association and was a Member of Helena United Methodist Church since 1996. A private family only graveside service will be held for him on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Elmwood Cemetery.
