Vistula Hovater

VISTULA “JUDY” HOVATER, age 89 of Birmingham, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Dolly Carroll; sisters, Lula Bell Klapp, Inez White and Lovie Patterson; and brothers, J.C. Carroll, Billy Carroll, Jackie Carroll, Travis Carroll, Thomas Carroll and Prentice Carroll; and son-in-law, George Gibel. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph Don Hovater; daughters, Donna Gibel and Penny Skinner; grandchildren, Jamie Russell and Aaron Walker; great-grandchildren, Amelia Russell, Caroline Russell and Atlas Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Judy grew up in Boaz, AL and moved to Birmingham in her twenties to work at A&P Grocery. She retired from J.C. Penney’s after 22 years of service, then worked at Eastside Baptist Daycare for 18 years. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church for over 40 years. Judy loved her family and taking care of the flowers in her yard. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Union Methodist Church Cemetery in Boaz, AL beginning at 2:00 PM.
