Walter “Wally” A. Holt passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, August 11, 2025. Born in Gadsden, Alabama on April 5, 1948, Wally lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Sarah Alice Holt. Wally is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jessica McGee Holt; his daughters, Elizabeth Holt Walker (Dusten) and Emily Holt; his sister, Nanaline Holt; and his cherished grandchildren, Sarah Jessica Stogner, Nathan Austin, Alexander Austin, and Kenneth Allen Austin, who affectionately called him as “Wally Pop.”
Wally graduated from Emma Sansom High School, where he was a standout athlete and earned a place on the All-American High School Basketball Team. He went on to attend the University of Alabama on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree in industrial engineering.
His professional journey began in West Virginia with Island Creek Coal Company. After a year, he returned to Birmingham to work for Alabama Byproducts Corporation, which later merged with Drummond Coal. Wally dedicated 25 years to Drummond before continuing his career with EMCorp in Hagerstown, Maryland. Upon retirement, he returned to Alabama and made his home in Hoover.
Wally will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and the love he poured into his family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers: Chrissy Harris, Kellee Harris, Monica Harris, and Bryan Mathews.
A visitation will be held at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel on Saturday, August 16, 2025, beginning at 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum.
